    Maria E. Ruiz Bonilla filed a whistleblower retaliation suit against McDonald's on Friday.
    Ruiz claims she was fired after protesting safety violations at the chain during the pandemic, including a lack of masks and cleaning supplies.
    "I was afraid, of course. I was thinking about losing my job," Ruiz told Business Insider. "But, at the same time, my fear of getting sick with COVID and dying was bigger."
