Millions of Americans may finally get their tax refund checks as the IRS clears out a backlog of 8 million 2021 returns

The IRS is underfunded and understaffed, and still digging itself out of a backlog of tax returns.
That backlog has meant that many returns remained unprocessed for months, delaying refund checks.
The IRS said Tuesday it will clear its backlog of original returns filed in 2021 this week.
