    This year, Egypt is hopeful regarding welcoming more visitors with numbers increasing gradually since January to around half a million tourists a month, said the Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Enany.
    Tourism revenue, an important source of foreign currency for Egypt, declined by 70% in 2020 due to the corona virus pandemic. Tourism usually occupies up to 15% of the country's gross domestic product.
    Egypt hopes for a recovery by the end of this year by having vaccinated tourism staff in resorts along the Red Sea and naming the area a COVID-free destination, said Enany.
